“Official” Grand Haven – LIVE FEEDS
Alright, so the major official ‘voices’ of Grand Haven don’t make for the sexiest, most lively array of Tweets flying round the Twittersphere… The City of Grand Haven, for instance, hasn’t Tweeted anything for a year and a half. But we should cut some slack to these organizations, full of hard-working folks, tight on both time & money, and Twitter is probably about 98th on their To-Do List. The City of Grand Haven only has 486 followers (in May 2014), so how much can it matter whether the City is Tweeting or not…hardly anyone is listening, at least not via Twitter…
These groups or organizations also have to be careful of their public image, which generally means staying nice and bland, especially after last year’s controversy over a series of Tweets from the Board of Light & Power featuring jokes about “power outages” that were in poor taste, and downright offensive to many. Although even we at The Times were as guilty as other media outlets for retweeting the one about the guy groping around after the lights go out, who thinks he’s just grabbed the handle of his flashlight… It was LMAO and ROFL funny! The whole thing turned out to be a malicious prank by an intern who was promptly fired, but it certainly taught a Twitter-Lesson to other local organizations and service providers.
